Three P42DCs leads the Westbound Zephyr at Leyden the morning after a quick late Winter blizzard blew through. 24 hours earlier, there wasn't a flake of snow in sight. It actually rained some before the snow started, resulting in the snow really sticking well to the trees, making for a Winter Wonderland.

The Westbound Zephyr knocks down a clear signal at East Leyden as it also kicks up some snow on the journey west. More than likely the third P42DC is isolated (not doing any work) and catching a free ride out to California.

Despite the frigid scene here, Winter is technically coming to a close soon...as a result, it appears that Amtrak's bookings are increasing. During the Winter months, there are generally seven Superliners on the train. Today, however, there are eight! Three coaches are bringing up the rear of the train.

An eastbound BNSF bare table train, led by a trio of ES44s, makes its way around Big Ten Curve. The train is lined in at Rocky and will tie down there as the crew is getting close to their hours of service.

Intermodal trains of any variety haven't been found on the Moffat in 15 years. However, once in a blue moon, UP or BNSF will route a baretable over the Moffat. If you haven't heard of such a creature before, a baretable is one of the lowest priority trains you'll find on the rails. It earns no revenue for the railroad as it is a "repositioning" move. These well cars are needed at BNSF's Logistics Park intermodal facility in Kansas.
