The westbound Zephyr is running about three hour behind schedule as it starts to become visible through a vicious February blizzard that has a lot of snow and wind and a temperature of only 15°F (-9°C) out.

The two P42DCs on the point of the Zephyr is about all you can see emerging from the blizzard. The train is about three hours late on this morning, but regardless of the delay, I am sure passengers are very happy to be warm on board the train.

The Zephyr is moving at track speed as it clips through a February blizzard west of Leyden. It is just a few minutes before noon and the snow really picked up within the past hour. It is falling at a rate of about 1 1/2 inches per hour, making for some extreme, but beautiful, conditions for photography.

The passengers look out of the Sightseer Lounge car at a frozen, white, winter wonderland. Unfortunately, no views of the plains will be available on this frigid afternoon as the train makes it way west, up and in to the Rockies.
