An eastbound coal load slows to a stop on the main at Leyden. The onboard PTC computers had an issue and mistakenly believed the train was on the siding when in fact it is on the main. After stopping, the crew corrected the issue and continued east.

There are two coal mines on the Craig Branch: Energy and Axial. Since 2009, only Energy has been loading coal trains that run off the branch. Axial has been loading trains that are "captive", remaining on the branch providing coal for power plants in the Steamboat Springs area. However, that recently changed and here is a shot of the first coal train to load at Axial and come off the Craig Branch in a decade! The symbol is the CAITM-09.

The first coal train to load at Axial and leave the Craig Branch in 10 years slowly rolls down the main at Leyden. There are some nice sunflowers and thistles in bloom in the area.

A UP coal train that loaded at the Axial Mine and is headed for the Joint Line rolls east on the main at Leyden. The train had to stop briefly on the main, but is now starting to roll east again past some sunflowers and foliage. The train has clear signals in to Yard Track 2 at North Yard.
