Three units, elephant style, lead a loaded eastbound oil train west of Leyden at the intermediate at MP 14.6. A C44AC-CTE, an AC4400CW, and an SD70ACe are on the point. After issues on Winter Park Hill with the last two oil trains, this one has two mid-train DPUs and a single DPU bringing up the rear.

This is a shot that would have look extremely different just ten years ago. The neighborhood of Leyden Rock, to the left, did not exist in 2010! The City of Arvada annexed the (previously empty) fields from Jefferson County and, since then, hundreds of new houses have been built.

94 tank cars loaded with oil roll east toward the west switch of Leyden. There has been a slight increase in oil trains on the Moffat in 2020. These oil trains weight as much as coal trains. This particular train weighs in at approximately 12,400 tons. This is why there are two mid-train swing helpers. These helpers, and the buffer cars (covered hoppers) on either side of them will be cut out at North Yard.

A pair of GEs serve as mid-train swing helpers on this eastbound loaded oil train. The train is passing along CO-72 and a frozen Welton Reservoir just west of Leyden.

A single SD70ACe bring up the tail end of an eastbound oil train, passing by the intermediate signal at MP 14.6. Hard to believe its been well over a decade since the old D&RGW (really, D&SL) signals were replaced here!

UP 8400 is the sole DPU on the end of a unit oil train making its way east toward Leyden. While the direction the DPU is facing is irrelevant in terms of train operations, it is always a little strange to see a single unit when it is not facing backward such as this.
