At the south switch of Platteville, a southbound UP auto rack train sits patiently in the siding, awaiting its turn to proceed south. The train just met a northbound auto rack train and, if you look closely, you can see the last car of the northbound on the main track way off in the distance.

On a beautiful March evening in Platteville, a southbound auto rack train sits in the siding as a few cars pass by on US-85. The day has seen mostly sunny skies and quite a bit of wind.

UP 8074, the lead unit on a southbound auto rack train in the siding at Platteville on the Greeley Sub. One thing that very much caught my attention was the seemingly freshly painted front end of UP 8074, including the stairs and pilot up to the anti-climber. Perhaps repairs from a collision?

This SD70ACe has certain seen some better days...or at least the paint on it has. Looks like it has suffered from engine overheat with some scared paint on the long hood which, unfortunately, has taken out quite a bit of the American flag as well.

Rumor has it that UP is looking to modify its paint scheme, specifically removing the American flag from the long hood. Seems like UP 7295 might be a candidate for a scheme Union Pacific intends to use moving forward.

My favorite six-axle unit after the SD40T-2. The SD70M, Phase 2 specifically. I was always a fan of the SD70M in general, but I really like the slightly flared radiator on the Phase 2 version of the model. This particular SD70M is now over two decades old, so it is great to find these units still operating on mainline trains.

Though this might be an interesting to see this nose comparison between an SD70M (right side) and SD70ACe (left side). Interestingly, the units are only four years apart in terms of their build dates. The SD70M was built in 2002 and the SD70ACe was built in 2006. This particular SD70ACe was one of the earliest to hit UPs roster.
