Alas, the Moffat is not one of those mainlines. In fact, the only remaining industry served by a local between Denver and Bond is the Arcosa Lightweight aggregate plant. It is located at the far north end of the Rocky Flat Industrial Lead, about four miles north of Rocky. Here is an overview of the plant and almost two dozen covered hoppers at the plant. With no cars to pick up today, the local is departing with just the two GP40-2s to head back to the main and back to Denver. An intense afternoon storm is currently resting over Boulder to the north. The local dropped of three hoppers and no pick ups today, so it is returning to North Yard light, with just the two geeps. Their job of setting out three covered hoppers was a quick one today. The train was away from the mainline for just over an hour. Note the two red lights on the right side of the shot. These red lights is telling the approaching GP40-2s that the light for traffic is still green. Once the stoplight was red, the light for the train changed from two reds, to the two greens you see on the right side of the frame. Once the geeps clear the circuit, their lights will change back to double red, and the stoplight for traffic will turn green. As the geeps approached the grade crossing, the conductor spotting the reverse move (the engineer is in the second unit) told the engineer that "traffic appears to be behaving" when approaching the crossing, ensuring that the cars were stopping at the red light and that it was safe to cross. The grade down the hill to rejoin the main at Rocky is a very steep 8%. The two geeps can handle the grade without issue. Even with a handful of cars, the steep grade can be managed.
