Yard Shots Rocky Mountaineer
It appears that one of the two Rocky Mountaineer GP40-3s, RMRX 8020, needs some type of repairs. As such, it has been taken from 36th Street over to North Yard, currently sitting between the yard tower and fuel tracks.

RMRX 8020 adds a little bit of color to the otherwise yellow tracks at North Yard. The five units in the distance are currently assigned to locals and yard job. The SD70M in the foreground to the right is likely waiting to be serviced.

Yikes! Here's another UP unit that looks like it has probably spent some time in some place like Southern California. Sadly, the unit has been tagged with graffiti all over. Missouri Pacific fans might also be sad to learn this GP38-2 was originally MP 2163, delivered in January 1980.

Similar to roadwork, summer time is a popular time for railroad maintenance as well! Here, crews are working to completely replace a switch in North Yard!

A trio of SD70Ms currently sits on the ready track, elephant style and in "phase" order. UP 5193 is a Phase 3 SD70M, with a "notched" nose. UP 3896 is a Phase 2 SD70M, with the slightly flared radiator housing. And, UP 4134 is an original Phase 1 SD70M.

Not a lot of switching is currently happening at the south end of North Yard as crews work to replace a switch in the yard. Looks like some reinforcement of the ground is happening, too, as dirt is being excavated out and placed in the gondolas.

An overview of UP's North Yard in Denver. Most of these cars have come from one of four trains: the MGJNY (from Grand Junction), the MGRNY (from Green River, WY), the MNNPNY (from North Platte), or the MPUNY (from Pueblo). There are some other manifest trains that run into North Yard, but these four are the most common ones.

I managed to "dumb luck" into coming across the Denver-Laurel manifest as it was departing Denver. Here, the train passes by RTD's final B-Line commuter rail station. This is the line that, ostensibly, is supposed to eventually reach Boulder. But, after money ran out, the line never made it beyond Westminster.

Some (fairly common) afternoon thunderstorms have spilled off the Colorado Rockies south of Denver and have now moved east onto the plains. As you can see, a fair amount of rain is falling with the storms, as a northbound Denver, CO to Laurel, MT manifest pulls north on the (un-signaled) Front Range Sub.
