KYLE Railroad Utah Railway
Here is a blast from the past! Utah Railway had six of these MK units (originally MK5000C, later MK50-3). They were eventually transferred to the KYLE railroad, but they were never repainted. Now, three of them are off to a new home.

The noses of these MK50-3s (originally MK5000Cs) are some of the most unique noses. They have a very heavy slope on the outsides of the nose. Here, UTAH 5006 is waiting for UP to pick it up (and two of its sister units) to head to Nebraska and their next owner.

This MK50-3 still sports the paint of Utah Railway. However, it is being sold off and it is now lettered as SPTX.

Utah Railway 5005 received a repaint into Genessee and Wyoming orange. After being purchased by Genessee and Wyoming, and after the collapse of coal on Soldier Summit (for Utah Railway), the MK50-3s were transferred to the KYLE railroad. UTAH 5005 (now lettered SPTX 5005) is ready to head to its next owner.

I am not sure what the history is of this SW1500. I found it on the KYLE in the yard at Limon, seemingly waiting to be transferred to Union Pacific. If you have some history on it, please feel free to share!

In the early morning rising sun, a nice glint shot off the side of a trio of ex-KYLE, nee-Utah Railway MK50-3s sit in the KYLE's yard in Limon, waiting for UP to pick them up for transfer to their next owner.

A few years ago, the KYLE idled all their MK50-3s. One unit, UTAH 5004, has been donated to the Ogden Railway Museum for preservation. These three are headed to a new owner. The next step is South Morrill, NE.

A GP38-2 sits alongside a grain elevator in Goodland, KS alongside the KYLE rail yard. I'm not sure of the history of this unit, but my guess is either Missouri Pacific or Missouri-Kansas-Texas (the Katy) as it does not have any dynamic brakes. Both of those railroads ordered many units without dynamic brakes.

This GP38-2 has been rebuilt and is now considered to be a GP38-3. It was originally delivered to Baltimore and Ohio in 1969. Now, 57 years later, it serves as a switcher in KYLE railroads Goodland, KS yard.

Not sure if this snow plow is used on the KYLE these days as it certainly is a bit rusty, but it still sits on the property, in the yard in Goodland, KS.

After a long morning driving from Denver east into Kansas, we catch up with UP 4014 as it returns back toward Cheyenne after a months-long tour east to Philadelphia. Just west of Collyer, KS, the train is on the move amidst a field of corn.

I was actually quite surprised by just how green most of western Kansas was when tracking down UP 4014 on the Sharon Springs Subdivision. The train passes by two of countless corn crops just west of Collyer, KS.

A combination of humidity and dust kick up from railfans add a hazy look to this shot of UP 4014 just west of Quinter as is passes by a few hay bails.

I think a cool touch to UP 4014 is the American flag and state flag that UP puts on the front of the engine. Whatever state the train will be running in at its next stop is the state flag mounted. Here, just west of Quinter, KS, the Kansas state flag sits on the front.

UP 4014 kicks up a plume of smoke as the train slows towards a maintenance stop in Grainfield, KS. The train will stop for roughly 30 minutes for grease to be applied to the drivers (and other components).
