Passengers should be pleased about the snow as the last Thursday Ski Train of the 2006-2007 winter season heads west at Blue Mountain. The train is just about to hit the hotbox detector at milepost 22.6.

Never underestimate winter in Colorado! The only month in which it hasn't snowed in Denver is July, and March is actually the snowiest month. Snow is still falling hard in this Spring blizzard as the Ski Train heads west along Highway 72.

The Ski Train in its element! A blizzard moved into the Denver-Metro area Wednesday night and covered the Ski Train sitting down at Union Station on Thursday morning. The snow hadn't stopped as the train headed west just west of Leyden.

Relatively nonthreatening clouds hang out over the eastern plains of Colorado as the Ski Train slowly passes east through Arvada on a yellow signal. Up ahead, the train will stop for a few minutes at CP 7.5 as a coal load (ahead of the Ski Train) slowly makes its way into Bypass Track Two at C&S Junction.

The Ski Train heads back toward Denver on its first run in Spring in 2007. Some of the grass in the Denver area is starting to show some signs a green, thanks to the very wet winter that we had earlier in the season. The Ski Train is crossing Carr Street, moving slowly on an Approach (yellow) signal.

It is wonderful that 19 years after the fall of Rio Grande, you can still find fly letters roaming through the Tunnel District! The last car of the Ski Train, the Kansas, is about to head into Tunnel 19.

The eastbound Ski Train is running right on time as it emerges from Tunnel 20. In the distance, the snowcapped mountains of the Continental Divide are clearly visible!

You can see how much the Ski Train has descended in elevation just between Big Ten and the west end of Rocky! The train is currently looping through Little Ten on the main line with a clear signal.

On a Friday afternoon, the eastbound Ski Train rounds Big Ten as it descends toward Rocky. A mix of clouds create an interesting contrast with the sunny foreground and the shaded background.

Home at last! Eleven hours and 132 miles after departing Union Station this morning, the Ski Train has completed yet another round trip to Winter Park. The train is pulling in, "head first", to Union Station on Track 2 to allow its passengers to disembark.

The eastbound Ski Train passes over the top of the Apex just south of North Yard on the main track. The train just passed a yellow signal as it approaches Prospect Junction. At Prospect, the train will have a restricting (lunar) signal, and cross over the BNSF track to get into Union Station.

Descending down the lower half of Big Ten Curve, the Ski Train is approaching the west switch of Rocky on a clear signal. Note the hoppers welded to the track (not the main, obviously), serving as a wind break against 90+ MPH wind gusts that are often felt here.

Normally, a shot of the Ski Train moving away would include the Kansas (with the open vestibule) in the shot. I thought it might be nice to get a closer shot of the California (with its Vista Dome) as the Ski Train heads east on the main at Plain.

After a long day on the western slopes, the Ski Train is a little over half way through its journey back to Denver. The train has just come through Rainbow Cut in the distance along the siding of Plain.
