A roster shot of AMTK 71, one of the two P42s being used on Disney's A Christmas Carol Tour Train. Unfortunately, there was no way for me to get any closer to the train than this, so the fences protecting the Light Rail tracks are unfortunately in the way.

Disney's A Christmas Carol is all CGI (and 3D) and will be released in November 2009. A pair of Amtrak P42s were decorated as (in essence) big movie posters! Scrooge looks grumpily off the side of AMTK 71, stopped at Union Station.

It is straight up 7:00pm as the Zephyr undergoes a crew change at Union Station. The eastbound Zephyr is just about 45 minutes early on this particular night! The P42DC - AMTK 50 - on the left side of the frame is kept in Denver as a backup in case one of the two units on #5 or #6 needs to be swapped out.

After helping setup a UP passenger train (headed for Saint Paul for the Republican National Convention), UP 1989 is set out as it won't be joining the rest of the equipment for the trip. More than likely, within a few days, UP 1989 will be back in night service on the Joint Line!

In the quickly fading sun, UP 844 slowly pulls out of Union Station in front of the Denver skyline. The train is preparing to pull passenger equipment out of Denver (which was present for the Democratic National Convention) to go to Saint Paul for the Republican National Convention. UP 844, however, would only be going as far as Cheyenne.

As UP 844 is crossing over from Track Two to Track One at Union Station, it is blowing off some steam from its pistons. After being on display all week for the Democratic National Convention, it is time for the mighty steam engine to return to Cheyenne.
