This is a short line that operates over La Veta Pass between Walsenburg, Alamosa and Antonito. The short line was hoping to revive the Ski Train in a trial run for one season in 2010 to see they can turn a profit. The train was to be run as the Rio Grande Scenic Ski Train and this was to be the power. However, negotiations with Amtrak fell through at the last moment and the train didn't come together. Almost like the good old days in the 1950's when dozens of passengers trains came through daily. From left to right, a spare P42DC sits on a stub track. The eastbound Zephyr (running 14 hours late) sits on Track 1. The westbound Zephyr (running 2 hours late) sits on Track 2. When running on time, the eastbound and westbound Zephyrs are about as far apart as they can be when they make their respective stops in Denver. However, on this morning, the eastbound Zephyr from the night before was running 14 hours late and the westbound zephyr was running 2 hours late.
