Two southbounds ahead of this train meant its warrants ran out at MP 17, so it had to stop and wait for the train ahead of it to get further down the track. With that requirement completed, a new warrant has been issued and the crew throttles up to continue south. You can always count on GE's to put on a good show when throttling up!

Some nice power to be had on the HDENLAU-03. The "BNSF" patch has almost rubbed off the cab of the Warbonnet. And that paint is pretty good by modern Warbonnet standards! Technical problems kept this train is the yard most of the morning and early afternoon, so the crew stopped at Broomfield to wait for a relief crew to take it north to Cheyenne.

A few weeks ago, the Longmont Turn power consisted of two Cascade Green SD40-2s. Both of those units must have gone in for inspections because this Yellow-Bonnet SD40-2 and New Image ES44AC are in charge now! The light power is headed down the main at Broomfield. Once in town, it'll pick up cars to take back north to Longmont.

The HLAUDEN had some colorful power on this particular day. The second unit has to be just about the cleanest H2 units on the roster! It is one of the few SD75Ms on BNSFs roster to lose its Warbonnet scheme in favor on the Heritage 2 scheme. Meanwhile, it looks like that CSX C40-8W has seen better days!

Just south of Broomfield, this southbound HLAUDEN is finally on the roll again after waiting for nearly an hour at Broomfield for the HDENLAU to get out of town and into the clear in the siding.

Just north of Boulder, this HPASSAG (with a rather colorful consist) is getting close to the end of its warrant at MP 25. Fortunately, the southbound ahead of this train will roll up its warrant to MP 17, allowing this manifest to continue without stopping through Boulder.

At Longmont, this southbound manifest is slowly making its way through the street course known as Longmont! Over a 5 1/2 mile section of track, trains have to blow their horn through 17 grade crossing (including the run down Atwood Street). Here, the train is running parallel to 1st Avenue, about to pass underneath the Terry Street overpass.

After receiving a new warrant south of Longmont, this southbound has just started pulling at Vermillion Road. The new warrant will take the train south to MP 25 in Boulder.

A few miles north of Longmont at Vermillion Road, this southbound HPASSAG has stopped so as not to block any crossing. Two southbounds ahead of it and the crew will hold here until they get a warrant south of Longmont. Note the new ties along the side of the track. Looks like BNSF is planning some maintenance for the summer!

Power from the 21st Century (an ES44DC) leads up power from the 90's (a C44-9W) followed by some classic power from the 80's (an SD60), all running elephant style on the HDENLAU-02. Upon arriving at Longs Peak (just north of Longmont), the train will tie down due to maintenance further north on the line.

Lots of new development (within the last 5-15 years) in the background of this shot. The northbound HDENLAU approaches a new "ant hill" (behind the photographer) which has sprung up in the last two years. It was nice to see an Oakway SD60 - EMD 9070 - helping pull with the northbound.

A 7000-foot Pasco, WA to Saginaw, TX manifest just received a warrant from the Front Range dispatcher and is now pulling toward the south switch at Broomfield after meeting a northbound Denver, CO to Laurel, MT freight (still visible in the distance).

One of the few H2 ES44DC leads up the northbound HDENLAU as the train enters the siding at Broomfield. In track warrant territory, all blocks (typically sidings) will have a sign indicating the location.

A single C44-9W brings up the tail end of this MPVDVJ-24, now on the last 12 miles of its journey from Provo into Denver. Provo trains almost always consist primarily of tank cars, and this train is no exception.

This eastbound MPVDVJ did not have the power that was advertised to me by a friend! My friend indicated that they thought the train was going to be led by a Cascade Green SD60M ... a very rare site on the Moffat. Unfortunately, two Dash-9s were all the train had to offer. Granted the lead unit was BNSF 5378. 5378 was one of the 73 SD40T-2s rostered by Rio Grande.
