Temperatures were in the 70's; near-record highs. The HDENLAU is passing Burns Junction at the north end of Broomfield. The mainline and the siding at Broomfield were once two separate mainlines owned by two different railroads. A short section of the track built by the Denver, Western and Pacific Railway still exists between Burns Junction and Lafayette. The HLAUDEN typically has a single unit DPU's on the rear of the train and today is no exception. A UP SD70ACe makes a rear appearance on the Front Range Sub. Apparently it was actually painted shortly after the BNSF merger. It was at the shops waiting to be painted (with a work order for this scheme) as the merger went through. This is the mainline through Longmont. Trains roll through here very slowly, blocking traffic at nearly 20 crossing as they go through. The Longmont Depot - still used by BNSF - is seen on the right. I particularly like the unique and distinctive dynamic brake intakes. BNSF 8700 is shown here serving on the Longmont Switch, which runs north out of Longmont to Cheyenne. While the tracks don't actually run down the middle of the asphalt, this is definitely some finest street running around. Houses line either side of Atwood Street.
