A pair of SD40-2s are the current power on the Longmont Turn. Although both units wear the Heritage paint scheme, it is interesting how drastically different the tone of the paint is!

After stopping at the north end of Broomfield, the conductor from the DENLAU has thrown the switch from the main to the siding. The train has a track warrant all the way to North Yard (in Fort Collins) and it is getting ready to roll in that direction!

A rare treat on this Denver to Laurel, MT freight as a Canadian National cowl SD60F joins the lead power. Internally, the unit is just an EMD SD60. However, there are no external walkways. You can walk alongside the prime mover inside the shell of the unit to get to the next unit. Canadian National has 86 such units on their roster.

Nearing the north end of Broomfield, BNSF's Denver to Laurel, MT manifest runs through the siding (on the left) while the Pasco, WA to Saginaw, TX manifest hold the main on the right. Note the lead unit on the DENLAU seems to be missing some decals from its nose!

BNSF's southbound Pasco, WA to Saginaw, TX manifest (HPASSAG) had a C44-9W and a Retro-Belle (KCS) SD70ACe for power. Here, the train has stopped just short of Nickel Street on the mainline (in Broomfield) to wait for a northbound manifest on its way out of Denver.

At Burns Junction (the north end of the Broomfield Siding), sitting on the Lafayette Industrial Lead, was a B40-8 wearing a very nice Heritage I paint scheme. I'm not sure why the unit was there as power for the Buck Local typically comes from Longmont. In the distance, you can see the HPASSAG siting on the mainline waiting for a northbound.

Fall colors haven't quite reached their peak at most places in the Denver-Metro area. Still, the colors in the trees here are looking good as the HLAUDEN has a signal to enter into the yard and pass underneath I-76.

This Laurel, MT to Denver, CO manifest has nearly reached the end of its journey. The head end is just entering the Restricted Limits of Clear Creek. Once the entire train is within the Restricted Limits, it will release it track warrant.

A seven-car BNSF Officer's Special came down the Front Range Sub, got to Denver, turned around, and headed back north toward Seattle. Not sure what the point of the special was, but here it is nonetheless! The train is near MP 10, coming around the big fill along Wadsworth Parkway.

As fall colors start to set in, a BNSF passenger special comes down the Front Range Sub. Here, the train is near the location of the derailment back in June (near American Furniture Warehouse).

A few miles north of Broomfield and this intermodal train (the Denver to Tacoma) is beginning the climb up the 1.6% grade of Burke Hill. I took this shot looking at the head end of the train in between two double stack containers.

After meeting a southbound at Broomfield (and stopping to restore the switch at the north end), this DEN-TAC (QDENTAC, Denver to Tacoma) is on the move again with a long train of double stacks behind it!

Not far from the east switch of Broomfield, a southbound manifest holds in the siding for a couple northbounds coming out of Denver. The southbound is long enough that the crew has had to cut the grade crossing at Nickel Street. Note the standard cab CSX C40-8 in the lineup!

A northbound BNSF manifest sits on the main track near MP 12 on the Front Range Sub in the rapidly-fading light at the end of the day. A flock of birds makes its way west toward Church Range Lake.

About a mile and a half south of Broomfield, BNSF's Brownville, TX to Laurel, MT manifest is stopped on the main track and waiting. They are going to meet a southbound at Broomfield which is still nearly two hours away! So, to avoid blocking any crossing, the crew sits and patiently waits. This is a good place to stop as it is close to a new Super Target! Crew can go an get some shopping out of the way while waiting.
