If and when the FasTracks initiative is completed, Light Rail will actually run along these three track (where the dirt is seen here). Currently, Light Rail runs right up to the back of the station. This is the only regularly scheduled non-coal train that runs on the KP. Here, the westbound MSIDV is less than a mile away from UP's 36th Street Yard. This GP40-2 was patched while on loan to the AAR test facility in Pueblo in May 2003. Even more recently, it received a full repaint. I'm a fan of the spartan cab (and these were some of the last spartan cabs produced by EMD), and I really like the blue and white scheme too. Granted they look a bit better in 1987 when they were new to the rails, but I'll always take advantage of two of them coupled together. I doubt their leases will last much longer... BNSF's Beer Run just got into the yard and will have to enter the OS here at the east end to cut some cars. Hence the reason for the manifest holding here. I'm not sure why the unit was there as power for the Buck Local typically comes from Longmont. In the distance, you can see the HPASSAG siting on the mainline waiting for a northbound.
