Fall colors haven't quite reached their peak at most places in the Denver-Metro area. Still, the colors in the trees here are looking good as the HLAUDEN has a signal to enter into the yard and pass underneath I-76.

This UP coal load is headed south toward the Joint Line on Main Two along the "Consolidated Main Line". If and when the FasTracks initiative is completed, Light Rail will actually run along these three track (where the dirt is seen here). Currently, Light Rail runs right up to the back of the station.

Union Pacific runs a daily manifest between Denver and Salina, KS over the Limon Sub. This is the only regularly scheduled non-coal train that runs on the KP. Here, the westbound MSIDV is less than a mile away from UP's 36th Street Yard.

The Rio Grande Heritage Unit, which recently put some time in on work trains in the Cheyenne area, is nose-to-nose with a former Espee GP40-2 (SP 7124). This GP40-2 was patched while on loan to the AAR test facility in Pueblo in May 2003. Even more recently, it received a full repaint.

The Oakway SD60s are some of my favorite engines on the rails. I'm a fan of the spartan cab (and these were some of the last spartan cabs produced by EMD), and I really like the blue and white scheme too. Granted they look a bit better in 1987 when they were new to the rails, but I'll always take advantage of two of them coupled together. I doubt their leases will last much longer...

Power ready for assignment! After power has been serviced, it is moved by hostlers to the ready tracks, seen here. C44-9Ws and SD70MACs are not uncommon here. Of interesting is the KCS SD70ACe, which I shot earlier in the day on the HLAUDEN.

A long shot looking down two of the ready tracks in Denver. BNSF 653 once wore silver and red as it was originally delivered as ATSF 653. Note the back side of Coors Field in the distance, where the Colorado Rockies play during the baseball season.

At the east entrance to BNSF's 31st Street Yard, the Lincoln, NE to Denver manifest (HLINDEN) had a CSX GP40-2 in the consist. We don't see CSX units in Colorado too often, and this is definitely the first four-axle power from CSX I've seen!

Waiting for a signal into the yard, BNSF's Lincoln to Denver manifest sits just east of the yard on the Brush mainline. BNSF's Beer Run just got into the yard and will have to enter the OS here at the east end to cut some cars. Hence the reason for the manifest holding here.

At Burns Junction (the north end of the Broomfield Siding), sitting on the Lafayette Industrial Lead, was a B40-8 wearing a very nice Heritage I paint scheme. I'm not sure why the unit was there as power for the Buck Local typically comes from Longmont. In the distance, you can see the HPASSAG siting on the mainline waiting for a northbound.

BNSF's southbound Pasco, WA to Saginaw, TX manifest (HPASSAG) had a C44-9W and a Retro-Belle (KCS) SD70ACe for power. Here, the train has stopped just short of Nickel Street on the mainline (in Broomfield) to wait for a northbound manifest on its way out of Denver.

Nearing the north end of Broomfield, BNSF's Denver to Laurel, MT manifest runs through the siding (on the left) while the Pasco, WA to Saginaw, TX manifest hold the main on the right. Note the lead unit on the DENLAU seems to be missing some decals from its nose!
