With Burnham now gone for 2 1/2 years, North Yard has taken on minor repairs to engines. Anything that cannot be repaired in Denver is typically sent to either North Platte, NE or Little Rock, AR. Here, a string of four units sits on one of the repair tracks at North Yard. Closest to the camera is an NRE 3GS21B; a low emissions unit that spends most of its time in either Texas or California.

This is something of an interesting looking unit...one that we don't see in Denver too often. This is a 3GS21B, often referred to as a Genset. It was built by National Railway Equipment and uses three low emission Cummins engines. UP has 59 on the roster, and they are primarily used in Texas and California, where emissions standards are more stringent.

For the first time since July of 2014, I got a few shots of the Missouri Pacific heritage unit as it made an overnight stop in Denver. The unit is number 1982 as that was the year that Union Pacific took over Missouri Pacific.

One final shot of these three pieces of Rio Grande equipment as they roll through UP's 36th Street Yard. They have been sitting in Burnham for 20 (or more) years. Fortunately, they are going to be preserved! The GP30 and Caboose at the Forney Museum in Denver. The steam crane at the Moffat Museum in Granby.

An elevated shot of DRGW 3006 as it backs down through UP's 36th Street Yard. Even though the sun has set, its still a pretty nice view of the unit, particularly since this is on its good side!

A last look at this Rio Grande steam crane as it backs through the yard at 36th Street. It will be temporarily stored until the weather improves and it can be moved to Granby, CO.

Forgive the slight softness of this photo. The light was starting to get scarce, but I wanted to get a shot of the UP special with Rio Grande equipment and the Denver skyline in the background.

This steam crane does not have any place to hold on to in order for a crew member to ride on the rear and protect the shove. So, two crewman walk along the tracks to ensure the tracks ahead are clear and the switches are lined.
