Three units lead UP's thrice weekly MGJNY on the main at Plain. The west end of Plain is quite different from the east end, tucked away against the mountains amidst a sea of pine trees. Really enjoy this view.

In this classic perspective from East Rocky, UP's thrice-weekly MGJNY leaves the siding at Rocky on its way east. The train is going to stop at the east switch of Leyden for a crew change. The current crew doesn't quite have enough time left on the clock to reliably make it to North Yard.

UP has mobilized several earth movers here on Big Ten between Rocky and the top of the curve. UP is using these large boulders to reinforce the grade and shore up the track.

A single AC4400CW brings up the back of UP's MJGNY as it rolls by the construction zone on Big Ten Curve. This particular AC4400CW was originally delivered in scarlet and gray as SP 207 in 1995.

This GP40-2, now designated as a GP40N, is likely either in need of maintenance, or its 90-day inspection is due. Either way, it is likely on its way to North Platte, NE. The unit was originally delivered to Baltimore and Ohio, before being sold to Southern Pacific and, of course, later being inherited by Union Pacific.

Five units lead UP's MGJNY toward a red-over-yellow (Diverging Approach) signal at the west end of Rocky. The second unit is likely headed to North Platte, NE for a 90 day inspection, or possibly for some maintenance.

UP's MGJNY arrives in Denver on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Lately, it has been fairly common for the train to descend the front range of the Moffat in morning daylight. This Wednesday is no exception, as the train coming around Big Ten Curve.

Yard Shots Union Pacific
One final shot of the back quarter of UP 1616. I think railfans were a bit surprised when this unit was unveiled as there was no real event that occurred that suggested an Abraham Lincoln unit was on the horizon. Regardless, I am not complaining. Any chance for something a little different, and I am all about it.

Several units sit in Union Pacific Council Bluffs, IA yard, including recently painted UP 1616. I am not familiar with the yard here, but I would speculate that the engines UP 1616 are sitting with might be on ready tracks, awaiting for assignment.

A look at the engineers side of UP 1616, Union Pacific's newest member of the custom paint scheme fleet. The unit was unveiled in Little Rock, made a trip to Omaha, then went west to Idaho, and has now returned to Council Bluffs, IA. Not sure where it is headed next...

Union Pacific newest specially painted unit sits idle in the yard in Council Bluffs, IA. This SD70M is wearing the number "1616" in honor of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. Additionally, while the paint scheme is similar to that of UP 4141, painted in honor of George W Bush, the colors on this Abraham Lincoln unit are unique. The inspiration for the colors come from colors used around Abraham Lincoln's time.

Just a matter of minutes before rain started falling, an eastbound manifest crosses Blue Mountain Drive. The train is only about a half mile long, and does not have a rear DPU on this particular day.
