Our old friend DRGW 5371, the only un-patched Rio Grande unit on Union Pacific's roster before being retired. It had been in Cheyenne, WY for over year, but has been moved to the Utah State Railway Museum. Union Pacific donated the unit to the museum. About two weeks earlier, a tanker truck loaded with Ethanol attempted to beat this SD40-2 to a grade crossing. The result was a huge fireball and a lot of heat! Amazingly, nobody was hurt in the incident. The SD40-2 was doing local switching. It had no cars at the time and was running long hood forward, which is no doubt what saved the crew. An interesting note about UP 5701. That was the number ex-Rio Grande GP60 #3155 was originally slated to get in UP's roster. UP 6936 sits on the Broadway overpass. Back when DDA40X's were (relatively) common, Broadway came to town via a viaduct running over the tracks.
