The last crew on this coal train tied the train down on Main 1 just east of MRL's Laurel Yard. Laurel's 1700 Utility Crew (called as such because they went on duty at 5pm) is now on the train and will take it in to the yard. There is an 500 (on duty at 5am) as well. These crews basically go around the yard and move trains and power around as needed.

This MRL SW1500 works the west end of the top yard in Laurel, switching out some tank cars. It has been awhile since I've seen a genuine switch engine doing work in a yard!

Yard Shots BNSF, Montana Rail Link
This particular Montana Rail Link SD45 has had quite a few owners over the course of its 35 year history! Built in October 1971, it was delivered as Seaboard Coast Line 2041. Since then, it has been merged or sold to Seaboard System Lines 8941, CSX 8941, VMV 8941, MRL 8941 and IMRL 8941 before finally returning to MRL! At the time of this photos, it was also the highest numbered unit on MRL's roster.

Yard Shots Montana Rail Link
Making a somewhat rare (but not unheard of) appearance in Denver, this MRL SD40XR (former BN SD40) heads for a yard track in Rennicks to pick up a sting of cars.

The S-curve just north of Burns Jct in in the perfect place to setup for late afternoon shots. MRL 313, MRL 330, and MRL 309 (on their way to be leased to KCS) lead BNSF's P-TACKCM2-10 on a very cold January afternoon.

Not quite "true" street running, the tracks still run down the middle of Atwood Street in Longmont, CO. A trio of SD45's lead a high priority BNSF train south.

THREE Montana Rail Link SD45-2's (MRL 330 has the body of an SD45, but is rated as an SD45-2) lead a BNSF P-TACKCM2-10 south at Mason Street and Laurel Street in Fort Collins, CO.

You can still find a few places where trains do "Street Running" in 2005! Such a place is Mason Street in Fort Collins, CO on BNSF's Front Range Sub. MRL 313 leads a train south down the middle of Mason Street.
