Perhaps the one and only time that all six Heritage units will be in the same location at the same time. Units are elephant style in order of the disappearance of the railroad. From right to left we have MoPac (UP 1982), Western Pacific (UP 1983), M-K-T (UP 1988), Rio Grande (UP 1989), CNW (UP 1995) and Espee (UP 1996).

Ever wondered what happened to the Rio Grande (Standard Gauge) caboose 01511? You can find here, now privately owned, in tow in Silverton. The caboose has been joined with an ATSF caboos on one end.

The San Luis and Rio Grande operates out of Alamosa on what used to be Rio Grande trackage. The railroad runs east from Alamosa to Walsenburg where it interchanges with Union Pacific. It also runs south out of Alamosa to Antonito. Here, a former Espee B30-7 sits in the yard at Alamosa, now under the ownership of the SLRG.

Apologies for the obstructions in the way of this shot, but I thought it was worth adding anyway. You may not know it at first glance, but this SD40T-2 was in fact DRGW 5374 once upon a time! It might just be the most renumber ex-Grande unit out there. It was DRGW 5374 until August 18, 1999 when it was repainted and renumber UP 4059. Eight months later, it was renumbered UP 8629 to make room for the SD70M's. Two years after that, it was again renumbered to UP 2897. It stayed that way for 18 months until it was retired on October 13, 2003. Then, finally, it was reactivated (as a leaser under GE Capital) as GECX 2897 on April 29, 2004!

Got the blues? So does this freshly refurbished GATX Rail Group GP38-2! GMTX 2678 is one of two leased GP38-2's roaming around in the Denver area on UP right now. The other is sister unit GMTX 2679, looking just as sharp!

Less than half a year old and looking very sharp! While UP's Armour Yellow scheme is not my favorite, I must admit that a freshly painted (or even freshly washed) unit can look outstanding! This ES44AC has all the latest bells and whistles (pardon the pun) when it comes to fuel efficiency and electronics.

OUCH! No, not a new style of convertible engine...about a week before this picture was taken, several tank cars got away from a switch job in Rennicks yard and rolled back to the 38th street yard. The Salt Mine (switch job) was working the yard track that the tanks went down. BNSF 1532 here was one of the two units used for power. Fortunately, all crew members were notified in advance and nobody was injured.

Came across this rather uniquely painted (former Santa Fe) B40-8 in the yards. It is the first unit in the Heritage scheme (H1) that I recall seeing that has a green stripe across the top of the nose.
