A southbound BNSF special rolls by on Main 1, heading for the Joint Line. Forty years ago, this scene would've only had two tracks in view. Now, from left-to-right, we have Main 3 and Main 2, both owned by BNSF. Then, Main 1, owned by UP. The two tracks on the right are RTD's Light Rail tracks.

The Department of Energy recently built this 12-axle nuclear waste car, named Atlas. The car will apparently be used by the Navy in the transportation of spent nuclear fuel from nuclear ships in the US fleet. The car is headed for the testing center near Avondale, CO

This is an appropriately-named "nuclear" car. It is used for transporting nuclear waste by rail. It has been tested by intentionally derailing a train and running it into a wall at 100+ MPH! In all tests, the radioactive cylinder remained completely intact.

Can you guess what "DODX" stands for on this caboose? If you guessed "Department of Defense", you'd be correct! This caboose is owned by the United States Department of Defense and was sitting on a short train in the yard at Roydale.
