Loram's LRV-14 is referred to as a "Rail Vac". It is actually a huge, extremely powerful vacuum on rails. It is capable of sucking up anything along the right-of-way, up to 15 feet from the center of the rail. It is of used for sucking up old ballast that is going to be replaced. Here, it is being transported to Denver on UP's MGJNY.

There is a nice view of the flatirons in the background as the Loram rail grinder makes it way north at Independence Road in Boulder. The work train is just north of MP 32 and the Foothills overpass is visible in the background.

Just south of MP 32 and the Foothills underpass, this Loram rail grinder is slowly working its way north on the Front Range Sub. On this particular trip, only the rails on curves were being ground. The grinder was skipping right over the straight stretches.

In between switches on the main in Boulder, this Loram rail grinder is making its way north. The worker at the end of the train watches for any fires that might accidentally be started as a result of grinding and extinguishes them with one of the water canons on board. The cars on the siding have no power and will be picked up later in the day by the southbound HLAUDEN.
