Two of the five P42DCs and five of the Superliners (on the end of the train) were picked up in Denver. Equipment used on the Winter Park Express Ski Train in the 2023-2024 winter season. The extra units and five of the Superliners were picked up in Denver this morning as they were used on the Winter Park Express Ski Train this winter season. The scene was viewed from the top of Tunnel 1. I applied an effect known as "Iris Shift" that blurs the perimeter of the photos, drawing the attention to the train. On this morning, however, only the first seven Superliners actually have passengers in them. The five cars at the end are all empty as they were picked up in Denver. The unit came to Denver a week earlier and was used on a special move on BNSF's Front Range Sub from Denver to Longmont (and back) the previous day. This grade crossing will not be around too much longer as a grade separation between the tracks and 72nd Avenue will be coming in the next few years. As a kid, it was one of my favorite things to watch. I specifically recall one scene filmed right here, atop Rainbow Cut. This will be the only westbound Amtrak that will be running on the Moffat today. The westbound Zephyr will be stopping in Denver, having been canceled west of Denver due to adverse weather.
