I knew the BNSF manifest (in the foreground) would be taking the siding. However, I thought that it would be short enough to fit east of the grade crossing. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case. The train came to a stop on the grade crossing, preventing me from getting to the other side of the tracks to shoot and westbound. Since I couldn't get over there, I decided to make lemonade out of lemons and get a blurred shot of the westbound between tank cars at the grade crossing. There is a grade crossing located near the middle of the siding (located at MP 31.35). The road is Gross Dam Road, so named because it eventually leads to Gross Dam. It is likely headed to Panama City, FL where it will receive electrical upgrades (being re-designated as a GP40-3) and also a new Genesee and Wyoming (orange) paint scheme. The clouds have broken up enough to offer some nice lighting on the scenery in the distance. The train will ultimately wind up blocking the grade crossing for about 15 minutes while waiting for the westbound UP coal empty it is meeting to come by. My youngest daughter (9) is using my old Canon Rebel XT body to get a few shots of a passing westbound BNSF manifest as the sun just barely breaks through overcast skies. Muddy water has pooled alongside the track as this west BNSF manifest works hard at the grade crossing at Crescent. Overcast skies suggest more rain is on the way.
