One of two trains that transport the greatest show on earth. The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus train is on the rails 11 months out of year, running coast to coast. The train is arriving in Denver as the show opens in less than 36 hours.

The first pictures I've taken of UP 3985 since it ran on a double-headed Cheyenne Frontier Days train in 2005. The UP steam guys did a fantastic job getting her ready to hit the rails again. The engine is leading the greatest show on earth (the circus train) and is about to pass underneath E-470 south of Brighton.

UP 3985, which has been "in the shop" for the past five years or so, has been put back together, been given a spot on shine, and is out running the mainline! UP coordinated with Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus to have UP 3985 lead the circus train south on the Greeley Sub. UP 3985 leading a 63-car passenger train (okay, some freight mixed in...but still). What a site!

The MNPNY (Manifest, North Platte to North Yard) is passing underneath E-470 about a mile south of Brighton. It may be nearing the end of March, but there's still plenty of snow on the ground.

A BNSF local is heading toward the Oil Refinery plant in Commerce City. The train is being led by a nicely painted GP38 and a GP40M.

The sun is getting closer and closer to the western horizon as the steam train makes its way closer to Denver. The train passes beneath E-470 in the distance, just south of Brighton.

All too often, as a rail photography, I curse the code line along the tracks for getting in the way of shots. With the advent of newer technologies, code line is starting to disappear! So perhaps it is time to start incorporating it in more shots before it is completely gone.

A military special (on the left) is rolling north on the siding at Brighton while the MNPNY (on the right) is rolling south on the main. Turned out to be a well-timed meet! UP 5594 - on the special - was in Brighton less than two weeks earlier on an Operation Lifesaver Special train with UP 1989!

UP's daily MNPNY (North Platte, NE to North Yard, CO) heads down the main track at Brighton. The train is on an approach signal because it will be meeting a military special here at Brighton.

My last shot of headlights from another train reflecting off the side of the Ski Train. At Brighton, the train held in the siding to wait for the ZLADV, quickly zooming down the main.

A photographer for Operation Lifesaver (I assume) looks out the cab door of UP 5594 as the OLS train slowly starts to head south toward the south end of the siding at Brighton. And interesting looking special to be sure, with only a caboose between the two units.

A nice look at the Operation Lifesaver Special in Brighton...if only the officers that just recently climbed on board had remembered to close the door on the nose!

A look at the tail end (and "properly-lit") side of UP 1989. It is sitting on the siding at Brighton, waiting for is Operation Lifesaver train to continue its days work.

For this Operation Lifesaver Special, a UP Bayside Caboose is being used. The caboose is sandwiched in between two units, allowing them to operate in a push-pull operation.

A group of Operation Lifesaver officials and police (both from the Colorado State Patrol and Adams County PD) climb up onto UP 5594. The OLS train will run through crossing and watch for people running around the crossing gates.
