It came to Cheyenne on the HLAUDEN (Laurel, MT to Denver, CO) manifest and was pulled off in the yard at Cheyenne. Literally 10 minutes prior to the sun setting, this manifest passed by heading east. An hour earlier, Cheyenne was pummeled by a torrential downpour that included nickel-to-quarter sized hail. That, however, result in the formation of this fantastic pond, allowing for a nice capture of an SD70ACe and an SD70M, both sporting the American flag. Each Spring, the cars are moved to their summer base in Council Bluffs, IA. This year, the 20 car train had the CNW Heritage Unit (UP 1995) on the point as it made its journey. This overpass is right at the east end of the yard. SD40-2 #3150 is sandwiched in between two sets of hoppers as its RCL crew works to rearrange the cars. It was painted in a scheme reminiscent of Air Force One. It was so-painted in honor of the George HW Bush Presidential Library, which had a special section on trains (and their history) in America. Nearly three years later, I was finally lucky enough to catch this unit on the point of a manifest approaching Cheyenne on UP's Overland Route.
