The steepest part of Soldier Summit is between Helper and the crossover at Colton. Frequently, mid-train swing helpers are cutout at Colton as the train can make it up to the top of Soldier Summit along at that point. Such is the case here, as five Utah Railways helpers have been cut out of the coal train at Colton and are returing toward Martin (near Helper) on Main 1. The tail end of the coal train can be seen departing west on Main 2 in the distance.

This train is progressing down the 0.68% grade just east of Colton. Note that the train is not following the right-hand rule, running the "wrong way" on main one.

A loaded coal train is coming off the Pleasant Valley Subdivison from the Skyline Mine. It was announced in the second half of 2003 that the Skyline Mine will be shut down in March or April of 2004.
