The heavy rains have created some very lush plants on the desert floor! Grande Tunnel Motors 5390 and 5371 (along with UP 7060) lead the eastbound Dirt Train out of the siding of Wash towards Mounds and the Sunnyside Subdivision.

About two miles away from the main track at Mounds, the Dirt Train passes through this nice S-Curve on the Sunnyside Subdivision. The train is moving at 15 MPH heading toward its destination of Banning.

A VERY late Amtrak 6 rounds the 180 degree curve at Gilluly, passing underneath US-6. Amtrak is running east on Main One to avoid maintenance further west.

After crossing over from Main One to Main Two at Colton, Amtrak is back up to track speed as it is about to cross under US-6 to continue east toward Helper.

With Soldier Summit behind, Amtrak 6 has a clear signal at West Helper Crossover. The train cars you see on the hill in the background are those of the Utah Railway.

The west switch of Price looks like it is in the middle of a nice park. It is surrounded by trees and grass. Amtrak 6, now running over six hours late, passes the clear signal at track speed.

With the Book Cliffs in the background, Amtrak is moving along at close to 80 MPH at Woodside on its trip east. It is about 20 minutes away from a station stop at Green River, UT.

One of the few hills in the desert is Thompson Hill, located just east of the town of Thompson, UT. While a heavy manifest might have a little bit of challenge, Amtrak can glide right over it. Here, AMTK 124 leads the eastbound Zephyr with nine cars just west of Thompson Cut at the apex of Thompson Hill.

While the rain in the desert turned the dirt into thick, sticky mud, it also really brought out the colors in the desert. Amtrak 5, running about an hour late, is coming through the S-Curve just east of Thompson Hill.
