On one hand we have a newly revamped GP38-2 wearing a fresh coat of blue and white GATX leasing paint. On the other hand, we have a nearly pristine (former) Cotton Belt GP40-2. Indeed, these were some of the first units to fall of Rio Grande's roster toward the end of its life in the mid-to-late 1980's. A very close second (seeing as how it is almost identical) is the scheme worn by the 100 leaser units from Oakway. I'm a sucker for a shot of one of these SD60s anytime! However, in order to prepare for Saturday's departure, the train was wyed in 36th Street, using a bit of Limon Sub to get the job done. Here, the train is almost all the way back into Union Station. The train, with UP 844 and UP 5327 (a "just in case" ES44AC) will be on display in Denver on Friday and depart north for Frontier Days early Saturday morning. In the distance, the MNPNY comes into North Yard (on Track 7) from the Belt Line at the north end of the yard. UPY 661, a GP15-1, is being remote-controlled as it passes beneath 48th Avenue in North Yard. This GP15-1 started life in January 1980 as Missouri Pacific 2161.
