BNSF's Beer Train enters the Golden Sub at C&S Junction. The new signals (yet to be activated) that will protect C&S are seen in the foreground. The signal on the right will be for the Golden Sub and the signal on the left will be for Main 2.

Until the new main track is actually put in service (expected to be May 2012 at the time of this photo), the new switches at C&S Junction are hand-throw. So, when BNSF's Beer Train comes through, a UP guy on the ground has to manually throw both sides of the crossover (from Main 1 to Main 2), the switch from Main 2 to the Golden Branch and the Derail on the Golden Branch. Here, you can see the Beer Run crossing over from Main 1 to Main 2 and you can also see that the Derail has been properly aligned in the foreground.

Once the new main track is completed between C&S Junction and Arvada, C&S Junction is going to become a long OS. In other words, there is going to be a great distance between the eastbound and westbound signals. The distance between signals will be nearly a half a mile! Here, BNSF's Beer Train departs from Main 3 in the distance as the yet-to-be-activated new signal for Main 1 stands facing the side in the foreground.

After a quick crew change at Fox Junction, the train was stopped for less than 15 minutes! Here, the train is rolling south on Main 2 about two miles south of the yard. In the distance, the tower at Elitch Gardens stands tall.

At Fox Junction, there is a pedestrian bridge built over the tracks. On my way down off the bridge, this shot through the framework of the bridge caught my eye.

Approaching Fox Junction, this blade train is slowly rolling down BNSF's New North Main at Rennicks. The track to the left of the blade train is UP's main line and the only track visible under CTC.

The journey down the Front Range Sub is complete. The blade train is just about to pass the distant signal at the I-76 overpass. The distant signal is in advance of the diamond with the UP Belt Line. With UP's DS-86 clearing the train across the diamond, the distant signal is now showing a green.

It is going to be a slow day on the Limon Sub! This is the first of only two trains that would run in daylight, the second being the Limon Local. The train is passing underneath the new Central Park Blvd overpass in the distance.

UP is getting closer to having Main 2 installed and ready for use. As you can see, BNSF's Golden Sub is tied in to Main 2 and the crossover to Main 1 is complete. However, no tracks have yet been laid across the new bridge over Clear Creek!

A nice break from coal traffic, this grain train is headed east for the plain on the Limon Sub. However, the train will be making a 30 minute stop at Limon to wait for another track warrant. This is also one of the first shots with a new Canon 55-250mm IS lens.

Okay, so what's the deal? A new BNSF paint scheme that is just starting to be rolled out? Nope. BNSF bought several former leaser units from GATX Locomotive Rail Group (similar to this unit) and rather than spending the money to completely repaint the units, they matched the colors and applied their logo.

One word came to mind when I first spied these three units through the view finder: ouch! The Warbonnet has definitely seen better days, but that Dash-9 in the middle is really hurting. Man, I can't stand taggers...

A scattering of EMD power is not at all uncommon in BNSFs yards. Evening though some of these units are 40 years old, they are still going strong! One unit in this shot, BNSF 2700, has been hanging out in Denver for over seven years now!

Three classic EMD units wearing three very different paint schemes! BNSF has been rebuilding and renumbering several SD40-2s including 1766.
