This Tunnel Motor is one of a very few that still hasn't "officially" been retired by Union Pacific as of this picture. The unit started life as SP 8259 and was delivered 29 years earlier in May 1980.

Yard Shots Ski Train
The main workhorse! When the Ski Train would make trips up into the Colorado high country, it would typically fall on SKTX 289 to generate the Head End Power for the train, providing power to all the passengers.

When SKTX 242 was unable to lead the Ski Train for whatever reason, the duty would often fall upon SKTX 283. The rest of the time, the unit would typically be found second up in the lineup.

The tried and true leader of the Ski Train for nearly a decade! SKTX 242 has been the standard leader on the train ever since the former Amtrak F40PHs came to town.

Car #9, the Winter Park, has operated as the "home base" car on the Ski Train for many, many years. The Ski Train manager set up in this car and car hosts reported to this car in the mornings to get their assignments.

The standard look to the Ski Train for almost the past decade. A trio of former Amtrak F40PHs have been in charge of the train. The units were purchased from Amtrak on a "lease-to-purchase" program, which was completed in 2004.

One of the last looks at the Ansco Ski Train. The train was sold less than week earlier to a subsidiary of the Canadian National. Soon, the train will be off to Canada.

Some of the final shots I ever expect to take of the Ski Train. The sale is complete and soon the train will be headed to its new home in Canada.

A baretable train consisting entirely of TOFC flat cars heads south out of Rennicks Yard and starts its journey on the Joint Line. The train is headed for Oklahoma City, OK, where the cars will presumably be placed in storage.

At the north end of the Joint Line, two units bring a rotary plow into Denver. The plow is based in Alliance, NE, but was moved down to Pueblo in case it was needed after a major Spring blizzard. My understanding is that its services were not ultimately needed.

Warbonnets anyone? The Beer Run is currently being powered by a pair of (great-looking) SD75Is. I have been wanting to catch them and was glad they showed up at the yard while I was there on this day.

More and more I'm taking the time to shoot (and post) roster shots of classic EMD power. Month after month, more and more SD40-2s are being put into storage if not being retired altogether. This SD40-2 is working the Salt Mine switch job at the Denver yards.
