The relief crew will take the train the remainder of the way into the yard in Denver. The track to the left is the house track at Rollins, which does not quite follow the same alignment as the siding and main. After sitting for nearly three hours at Winter Park for the Winter Park Express and the Zephyr, the crew is running short on time. Now, about an hour after the Zephyr was at Tolland, the manifest is rolling along quickly just east of Tolland, the Continental Divide standing tall and snow-covered in the distance. Reports are that I-70, the main highway through the Rocky Mountains west of Denver, is at a stand still with congested traffic. It is quite windy and very cold, with snow blowing around all over the valley. The Winter Park Express Ski Train has a clear (green) signal, ready to dive into the 6.2-mile-long tunnel. This season, the Colorado Department of Transportation is helping to subsidize the cost of tickets, and passengers can make a one way trip for as low as $19! The west end of Cliff hugs the north foot of a mountain. As a result, it goes months without direct sunlight and, as a result, the rails also often spend months buried in the snow in the winter months. As you are probably aware, and perhaps have even read here on the site, MRL units have becoming easier to catch outside Montana since BNSF's took over Montana Rail Link at the start of 2024. With the MRL power now officially owned by BNSF, the power has been scattered across the BNSF system. Eventually, it will be repainted in BNSF colors. BNSF's eastbound Provo-Denver manifest has four units on the point as it approaches the grade crossing at Tolland. You can see Tolland Road continuing west by the old yellow and green school house, making its way up to the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel.
