Spruce marks one of three locations on the Joint Line where ownership of the two main tracks changes between UP and BNSF. BNSF 4479 is just moving down into "the sag" as it changes from BNSF-owned track to UP-owned track on main one.

Sometime, when you are out on the Joint Line, you can get lucky enough to get a southbound and a northbound in the same shot. Such was the case on this day as BNSF 4479 (on the former ATSF grade; main one) "meets" with a northbound manifest (on the former DRGW grade; main two) just south of Larkspur.

If you are familiar with the bridge on the southbound track still labeled "Santa Fe" to this day (just south of Larkspur), then you know right where this picture was taken! The covered hopper visible just behind the box car is just coming over that bridge.

This 36-axle "Schnabel" Car was provided by Westinghouse Electric Corp to transport the hydrotreater seen here. The hydrotreater will be used at the Suncor refinery in Commerce City, CO where it will create low-sulfur fuel through heat and pressure.

BNSF 9909 leads a heavy coal load south at Larkspur. On this turbulent Saturday, the weather here would soon go from sunny to rain and thunder!

Perhaps the most well-documented bridges on the Joint Line is this bridge on main one, located just south of the town of Larkspur. The Santa Fe heritage is still evident on the bridge.
