A single ES44AC brings up the tail end of this northbound loaded sand train on the Front Range Sub. The train has a track warrant as far as MP 25 in Boulder. When in reaches there, the dispatcher told the crew he should be able to get them another warrant to continue north.

A heavy northbound sand train slowly approaches the Sheridan Blvd underpass in Westminster. The Heritage 2 scheme is becoming less and less common on BNSF, but there are still quite a few units sporting the scheme. Mainly C44-9Ws, such as BNSF 5290.

It is not too terribly common to find a single unit leading any train. However, that was exactly the case today as an ES44AC leads a long baretable train down the Front Range Sub toward Denver. The train just got permission from the yard to continue past 80th Avenue, a common holding place if the yard cannot take trains.

Interestingly, I happened to get a shot of this exact unit less than three weeks earlier, leading the Provo-Denver over the Moffat!

This B40-8W will likely be dropped off in Longmont to be used one of several locals that run out of Longmont each day. It probably had to be sent to Denver for a 92-day mechanical inspection.

For many, many years, it was very rare to find BNSF SD70MACs on anything other than coal trains. However, in 2018, it is becoming more common to find them in other service. Such is the case here as a 70MAC is helping out with this manifest.

BNSF's Denver to Cheyenne manifest approaches Church Ranch Lake with an SD70ACe on the point. This view, from right near the US-36 overpass, is a great spot to catch northbounds in the morning almost any time of year.

Here is a shot that might make you do a double take! UP power on an intermodal train coming underneath 92nd Avenue on the BNSF Front Range Sub!? Yep! A derailment near Eaton, CO on the Greeley Sub resulted in UP running their daily Z-Train north via BNSF to Cheyenne. Two ES44ACs and two SD70Ms lead up the train on the approach to Wadsworth Blvd.

Now here is a rare site to behold! Due to a derailment on UP's Greeley Sub, UP talked to BNSF and rerouted the daily ZDVSC up the Front Range Sub to Cheyenne. As far as I know, this is the first time this has ever happened!

A single ES44AC brings up the tail end of a northbound coal empty. The train is crossing 88th Avenue on the Front Range Sub. If you look in the distance just to the left of the train, you can see a couple of apartment buildings. I actually lived in those building for about 18 months when I was in college!

A chartered passenger special, setup by High Iron Travels, heads north on BNSF's Front Range Sub past the new Commuter Rail station in Westminster. This station is part of the "B-Line" that, in theory, will eventually reach Boulder and Longmont. For the time being, this is the end of the line.

This is a rare train running on rare miles. The train is part of a special charter by High Rail Travels. The special, called the Front Range Explorer, left Denver just after 7am and was headed for Gillette, WY to tie up for the night.
