A leased Norfolk Southern C44-9W and a Warbonnet C44-9W (which looks to be in very good shape) coming around the big fill in Westminster with an empty windmill blade train. The fill had to originally be built in order to cross over the Big Dry Creek. Building a fill was apparently less expensive that build a large (curved) bridge.

A southbound (empty) windmill blade trains come around the big fill in Westminster. The train just met a northbound coal empty at Broomfield and now has a track warrant from the South Siding Switch Broomfield to Restricted Limits MP 4. That will take the train all the way in to Denver.

This northbound coal empty has come to a stop, the end DPUs sitting on the Westminster Fill. The train will likely be meeting a southbound at the siding of Broomfield. However, Broomfield has two grade crossing and, as such, northbounds will usually hold near Church Ranch Lake until the dispatcher tell them to pull in to the clear when the southbound is close enough.

A wide angle shot of a blade train coming around the fill in Westminster. In the distance, you can see the tallest building in Westminster, the Westin hotel.

I always enjoy running across the occasional "Retro Belle" SD70ACe. I'm really happy that Kansas City Southern has reintroduced this classic scheme as I find it to be one of the sharpest schemes on railroads today.

There has been massive flooding in the Omaha, NE area this summer. Consequently, BNSF has rerouted a lot of traffic through Colorado. As a part of the reroutes, several coal empties have run north on the Front Range Sub. Here, one waits for the dispatcher to allow the train to proceed into Broomfield for a meet.

A northbound rerouted coal empty sits on the the fill in Westminster. As it turns out, this trio of SD70ACes are actually the DPU units on the tail end of this train on a pleasant July afternoon.

As much as I love Cascade Green, I almost wish the lead unit here had been in the Heritage scheme just so it matched the other three SD40-2's in the set. However, I'm not complaining as the sight and sound of four EMD 645 engines running was beautiful! If you'd like to hear, I recorded a brief clip and posted it along with this shot. While a nice pair of E-units might look a bit better, this matching pair of ES44DC's look pretty good on the point of this Officer's Special coming around the Westminster Fill. After a crew change in Denver, the special will continue south to La Junta.
