A Warbonnet C44-9W and an ES44C4 bring up the rear of the eastbound of the Provo-Denver just east of the intermediate at Chemical. Would be great if a Warbonnet would lead on the Moffat again. However, leaders on the Moffat are now required to be PTC-equipped, and I do not know if BNSF has put PTC equipment in any Warbonnets.

After waiting in the siding at Rocky to meet two westbound, the Provo-Denver now has clear signals for the rest of the run in to Denver. Here, the train is approaching the intermediate at Chemical, west of Leyden.

After stopping briefly at Leyden to check on something in the consist, BNSF 6163 is now heading west. The lead unit is one of ten specially painted units honoring the 25th Anniversary of BNSF. I've been fortunate to catch two of these units leading now!

It has been nearly four years since I've taken a shot of a patched Espee unit. A big reason why? Only four patched AC4400CWs are still on UP's roster! UP has repainted 275 of the original 279 AC4400CWs that were on Espee roster when UP and SP merged in 1996. This was SP 321 when it was originally delivered.

Today's Zephyr has seven Superliners, which has been the norm since COVID-19 hit earlier this year. However, there is one additional car catching a ride behind the Superliners. This is an Amtrak California Capitol Corridor car. It runs between San Jose and Sacramento and is head back to California after having some repairs made in Beech Grove, Indiana.

The Zephyr zips by alongside CO-72 just west of Leyden. The neighborhoods of Leyden Rock and Leyden Ranch, which started construction in 2013, are nearing completion behind the train. The land this neighborhood is built on was annexed by the city of Arvada shortly before construction started. Now, over 1,500 homes exist near the Moffat Tunnel Sub.

Despite having four units, this Provo-Denver is actually pretty darn short! Only 21 cars making up the train today, including a box car, three covered hoppers, an empty centerbeam, and 16 tank cars. The train is paralleling CO-72 and Welton Reservoir. This Reservoir was built in 2002 and started filling in 2003. It's primary use is for drinking water.

UP 8400 is the sole DPU on the end of a unit oil train making its way east toward Leyden. While the direction the DPU is facing is irrelevant in terms of train operations, it is always a little strange to see a single unit when it is not facing backward such as this.

94 tank cars loaded with oil roll east toward the west switch of Leyden. There has been a slight increase in oil trains on the Moffat in 2020. These oil trains weight as much as coal trains. This particular train weighs in at approximately 12,400 tons. This is why there are two mid-train swing helpers. These helpers, and the buffer cars (covered hoppers) on either side of them will be cut out at North Yard.

Three units, elephant style, lead a loaded eastbound oil train west of Leyden at the intermediate at MP 14.6. A C44AC-CTE, an AC4400CW, and an SD70ACe are on the point. After issues on Winter Park Hill with the last two oil trains, this one has two mid-train DPUs and a single DPU bringing up the rear.
