Five EMDs (3 SD70Ms, an SD60M, and an SD40-2) power this westbound MNYRO (Manifest, North Yard to Roper, UT) on the main at Plain. The three (significantly dirtier) GEs behind the EMDs are DIC (Dead in Consist) and are just catching a ride to Glenwood Springs so they can be setout and used as midtrain swing helpers on an eastbound coal load. UP's MNYRO is stopped on the main at Plain because they are having issues getting anywhere close to track speed. DS-82 aligned BNSF's QDVPVJ into the siding alongside the MNYRO. The train stopped and the engineer hopped in to the end DPU to ensure that it was configured and working properly. Turns out it was and the train, with only three units, was likely under-powered. While the MNYRO usually carries some cars to be setout in Grand Junction, there are days when the MNYRO doesn't run. Combine that with a high number of cars headed for Grand Junction and the MNYGJ is often needed. It runs every Sunday to be sure in place of the MNYRO. The dispatcher instructed the train to stop short of the grade crossing so as not to block cars.
