A pair of KCS units sit on ready tracks at BNSF's engine facility in Denver. KCS 4548 is actually a KCS de Mexico unit, and one of the few-remaining gray units on the roster. Of course, both units are now under the CPKC banner and, eventually, will be repainted accordingly.

In a sea of BNSF orange is a single spot of red with a Canadian Pacific ES44AC. I don't see a lot of these units in Denver, and with the CPKC merger, it is only a matter of time before this paint scheme fades in to history.

There is a typical sea of orange at BNSF's Engine House in Denver as Sunday morning commuters on RTD's N-Line to Thornton sail by on a bridge. The commuter train is nearing the end of its southbound journey at Denver Union Station.

As time marches onward, fewer and fewer "green and cream" units remain on BNSF's roster as repaints continue. However, you can still find them here and there. BNSF 9709 is one such example, sitting near the engine house in Denver.

BNSF keeps a HazMat cleanup train set stored at Denver. It includes this caboose and several tank cars, all painted in this eye-catching, bright-red paint scheme.

An overview of BNSF's engine facility in Denver on a sunny Tuesday morning. Even in 2023, it is still not uncommon to find patched BN or ATSF units that still bear their green and black or blue and yellow colors. Not the case today, however, as the scene is entirely dominated by the BNSF orange that has been the standard for decades.

The sun is not quite high enough yet to fully light all of the power sitting at BNSF's engine facility ("the house"). Of note is the C44-9W in the foreground on the left that appears to have been sold to Kansas City Southern!

The process Amtrak must go through to make its station stop in Denver is rather involved. Multiple tracks and dispatchers are involved. Union Station has "stub tracks", meaning there is only an exit in one direction. Consequently, the Zephyr must back in to the station. Here, the morning Zephyr is backing down the Buck Lead by BNSF's engine facility, underneath Park West Avenue. Note Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, in front of the Denver skyline.

In order to get to the Forney Museum, this UP special had to pull into BNSF's yard in order to get to the Denargo Wye. The Denargo Wye is a transfer track between BNSF's 31st Street Yard and UP's 36th Street Yard. The track is visible in the foreground.

In order to align some switches, this UP special stopped at the perfect spot to get a shot of this steam crane on the far side of the yard!

Here is something that hasn't been seen in a very, very long time! A Rio Grande GP30 rolling through BNSF's yard! The nose of a GP38-2 is visible to the left and the nose of an ES44AC is visible to the right!

BNSF's engine house in Denver tends to be feast or famine...and, as you can tell, it was feasting on this morning! Cascade green, an SD70MAC in the "Green and Cream" scheme, Heritage, Heritage 2, New Image, Tier 4, and Kansas City Southern are all represented in this one shot!

BNSF 573 is one of a very few B40-8s that are still on BNSF's active roster. This unit was delivered in April of 1989 to Santa Fe. Many of its brothers have turned in to parts donors for units like 573 that are still active. The unit was sitting by itself near the engine house on this December morning.

BNSF: Through the years! A nice collection of power and paint schemes in these four units. It includes an ES44DC in the New Image scheme, a pre-production ES44AC in the Heritage 2 scheme, a C44-9W "Goat Boat" in the Heritage scheme, and a C44-9W in the Heritage 2 scheme.
