These guys have been working on the main in various locations between Rocky and Crescent recently. For a few days, they were tied down on the bottom end of the Rocky Spur. This unit, BNSF 4706, is one of the few that actually received the warbonnet scheme with "BNSF" lettering after the merger, prior to the original Heritage scheme being decided upon. It does happened occasionally when power sharing is happening. I was lucky enough to catch the Savannah and Atlanta heritage unit, sitting amongst a bevy of other units near the BNSF engine shop. This is the first NS heritage unit I have actually shot in 11 years! The unit came in on the Valmy, NV bound coal load, but was removed for fueling. The power pole and wires made on one side, and string of BNSF units on the adjacent track on the conductor's side, made it impossible to get a "clean" shot of the unit. The term "catfish" for NS units comes from the white striping on the nose and the black overall color of the unit, giving a bit of a catfish look. Among them was this MRL SD70ACe. Now owned by BNSF after the acquisition of MRL at the start of 2024, MRL units are showing up in Denver relatively frequently.
