After nearly an hour of nothing moving, I was about ready to call it a day and head home when I noticed a blade train coming off the Front Range Sub! The train was instructed to pull through Rennicks and continue south on the Joint Line. A new crew was waiting at Walnut Street. Here, the train is coming through Rennicks Yard.

An SD40-2 and a GP39-2 work to switch out strings of double stack containers in Rennicks Yard. The three tracks closed to the camera are owned by BNSF. All tracks beyond are owned by Union Pacific. Indeed, the classic North Yard yard office rests on the far sides of the tracks.

An SD40-2 and a GP38-2 sit on the point of a yard job on BNSF's "New North Main" near Utah Junction. The yard job will switch out several local industries in the area before returning back to BNSF's 38th Street Yard.

At the south end of Rennicks, BNSF's intermodal yard in Denver, a couple of sets of power are hanging out. A crew appears to be working on one set, perhaps for a southbound train on the Joint Line later in the day.

A toploader works on unloading some containers off this train at Rennicks. A sea of empty frames (that these containers can be loaded on to in order to be hauled by truck) sit on the east side of Rennicks.

A truck driver hooks up to his trailer as he prepares to pull away and head for his destination. Rennicks Yard primarily handles two intermodal trains per day: the ZDENCHI9 (which departs around 7am) and the ZCHIDEN9 (which arrives around 7pm). When crews are not working on loading or unloading these trains, they can focus on the few others trains that original from Rennicks.

Modern intermodal sideloaders are capable of lifting trailers (with their arms, shown lowered here) or with the container locking pins (on the top of the container). BNSF has two sideloaders onsite at the Rennicks intermodal facility.

A pair of SD40-2s starts pulling on a long string of double stacks out of the loading area at Rennicks. These containers are quite possibly bound for Chicago on the highest priority train BNSF runs out of Denver, the ZDENCHI. If that is the case, they will see an early morning departure the following day.

Located on the east side of UP's North Yard in BNSF's Rennicks Yard. This yard represents BNSF's intermodal presence in Denver (which, admittedly, isn't much). BNSF runs an intermodal train between Denver and Tacoma, WA and one between Denver and Chicago, IL. Thus, the two tracks located at Rennicks are sufficient to get the job done! Here, a pair of SD40-2s prepare to pull a string of double stack containers south.

Not long ago, this empty field was the home of American Concrete Pavement. Among other things, the company built thousands of concrete ties for railroads all over the country. The plant has moved to Pueblo, CO now and construction on a new maintenance facility for RTD (for EMU vehicles) is under way.

Destruction and construction! The concrete tie plant (owned by Rocla) that used to be located just east of BNSF's Rennicks Yard has been moved to Pueblo, CO. The reason? RTD and the FasTracks project! The old building for the tie plant has largely been torn down and can be see way off in the distance. Meanwhile, a lot of construction has already been completed on the new Light Rail flyover.

At Fox Junction, there is a pedestrian bridge built over the tracks. On my way down off the bridge, this shot through the framework of the bridge caught my eye.
