Several of these units seem to have found their way to Denver and are often used in switching service. BNSF 4244 sits near the engine shops at 38th street. Not as much power as there sometimes is at the shops, but a nice splattering of color anyway. This shot was taken from the Park Avenue West overpass. Built in October 1971, it was delivered as Seaboard Coast Line 2041. Since then, it has been merged or sold to Seaboard System Lines 8941, CSX 8941, VMV 8941, MRL 8941 and IMRL 8941 before finally returning to MRL! It worked on the railroad in Canada until 1999 when it was sold to National Railway Equipment (NREX). On this particular day, it was being leased to BNSF. Leaking oil has done a pretty good job of obscuring much of the engineers side of the unit. Rebuilt from an SD40, the unit currently wears the so-called "Dark Future" paint scheme.
