Belt Industrial Lead (UP) Union Pacific
So close and yet so far away! UP 1996 and three other units lead Union Pacific's MNYGR. The train is currently picking up its DPU back in north yard. A utility crew is getting its air hose, etc hooked up. If the train were three or four cars shorter, Washington Street would have been cleared. Alas, traffic is going to have to wait a bit longer. While most motorists are probably not railfans, perhaps a few note the uniquely painted Espee heritage unit leading the train!

Belt Industrial Lead (UP) Union Pacific
The Belt Industrial Lead, which is only four miles long, is often time a bit of a bottleneck in the Denver area. It connects North Yard to 36th Street Yard, the Limon Sub, and the Greeley Sub. The line also has numerous switches and industries that are regularly switched by a yard job. Since it is a single track main, one train can stop several others. At the moment, this MNYGR is slowing to a stop to pick up its DPU, way back in North Yard.

UP 1996 is technically moving away from the camera, making a reverse move back in to North Yard on the Belt Industrial Lead. The train needs to pick up its DPU before it officially departs and heads for the Greeley Subdivision. The grade crossing is Washington Street, and the overpass in the distance is I-25.

UP 1996 and train have come to a stop on the Belt Industrial Lead. A North Yard utility crew is throwing a few switches behind the train, so it make a reverse move and pick up its DPU. At the moment, the train is crossing Broadway and Washington Street, likely aggravating a lot of motorists. Momentarily, the train will make a reverse move to pick up the DPU.

In one of the more industrial parts of Denver, UP 1996 and the MNYGR pass by a billboard advertising Southwest Airlines. The train is on the 4-mile-long Belt Industrial Lead, which connects North Yard with the Greeley Subdivision (and the Limon Subdivision and 36th Street Yard). The train is just about the pass underneath I-25, the busiest highway in the state of Colorado.

UP 1996 leads the MNYGR (Manifest, North Yard to Green River) across Broadway as it pulls through CP DS900. The train has picked up the rest of its train from Track 7, and needs to pick up its DPU next.

A very long UP switch job, which has picked up some cars from the 36th Street Yard, is headed west across the 4-mile-long single track mainline known as the Belt Industrial Lead. Four units pull the train across Washington Street across Copeland Lake.

Wanted to grab a quick roster shot of UP 6294 specifically because, under that yellow paint scheme, you'd find scarlet and gray. Indeed, the AC4400CW started life as SP 241. This summer, the unit celebrates its 29th birthday, as it was originally delivered in June of 1995.

UP 7855 is slowing toward a stop on the Belt Industrial Lead. They do not have a route in to the yard yet, so the engineer will bring the train to a stop just east of Washington Street so as not to block any grade crossing while waiting to get in to North Yard.

The Belt Industrial Lead, which connects North Yard to 36th Street Yard and the Greeley Sub, also has quite a few connections to local industries along the way. You can see two tracks that curve north toward industries in the area. Meanwhile, UP's MGRNY (Manifest, Green River, WY to North Yard, CO) approaches on the main train.
