It has now been renumbered UP 6946 and has a 4400 HP prime mover. It is now awaiting some electrical work before it can be released. Union Pacific is in the process of converting the AC6000CW fleet back to standard 4400HP AC4400CW (officially C44/60AC on UP's roster). The 6000HP experiment just didn't work out for UP. All of EMD's SD90MACs (with 6000HP) are off the roster and most of the AC6000CWs have been converted back. This unit, previous UP 7569, is waiting for is 4400 HP engine to be plopped in. It was a very cool experience. Even cooler to consider the Rio Grande history as these were the main shops for Rio Grande. Here, we see engines waiting for some traction motor replacement. These are the tracks at Burnham at which the Ski Train was stored during the off season. Instead, the tracks are now filled with former Grande Luxe Express cars. UP has a few of them available in storage at Burnham (in Denver). The units tend to be older and most have been sitting in Burnham for at least a year. There are many C40-8Ws here and there is a string of SD90MACs in the distance. There units are the true 6000 HP units developed in the late 1990's.
