This single track bridge is close to a mile long and takes the A-Line from along Smith Road and the Limon Sub over the tracks and over I-70 in order to parallel Pena Blvd to DIA. The units were built by Siemens and are headed for Pennsylvania. RTD's "A Line", which runs from Union Station to Denver International Airport, follows UP's Limon Sub for much of the run. Here, just west of Airport Blvd, the A-Line ascends and crosses over the Limon Sub. If only a commuter train has passed over right at this moment! The first is the Roydale Local, led by a pair of GP38-2s. The second is a UP special that is transporting four Siemens electric units. On this Wednesday morning, the Roydale Switcher is return back toward town with three boxcars in tow. The pair of GP15-1s are taking the siding to meet an eastbound coal load. Now, UP 7008 represents a unit that is nearly 20 years old while the truly newest representative from General Electric, the ES44AC, sits in the siding at Mesa. The units were numbered GECX 4000-4009. The units wore UP colors, but instead of "Union Pacific" on the long hood, they had "GECX". The units were ultimately purchased by UP and put in the roster. They wound up as UP 7000-7009. Here, you can see the number "7" patched on the cab over the "4" on UP 7008. The train is actually a reroute that is running through Colorado due to a derailment in Emmett, KS. The train originated in Milford, UT and is headed for Salina, KS. A zone crew has just untied the train and is preparing to take it in to North Yard for a power swap. Currently, the train is being led by an ES44AC, which is somewhat unusual for UP coal trains in Colorado. Even though the Limon Sub operates under track warrants, there is an ABS island at both ends of Mesa, allowing the dispatcher to throw the switch, saving the crew quite a bit of time.
