The current power for the South Local and the Rocky Local sits near the yard office in North Yard. This is very close to the spot that Rio Grande regularly kept a pair of GP30s. Case-in-point is this photo from 1988. This is the oldest picture that I personally shot that I have on my site! I had just turned nine years old had a point-and-shoot camera for this particular shot.

1992 or 2007? Except for the large yellow patches and incorrect numbers on all three of these GP40-2s, this images could almost pass as one right out of the past! These three geeps are switching a few cars around in North Yard.

In the foreground, UP 1344 (ex-DRGW 3121) switches covered hoppers on some yard tracks in North Yard. In the distance, the MNPNY comes into North Yard (on Track 7) from the Belt Line at the north end of the yard. If you look closely, note the Rio Grande Heritage Unit is fourth in the consist of the MNPNY!

A slightly different perspective on the classic EMD Spartan cab. UPY 661, a GP15-1, is being remote-controlled as it passes beneath 48th Avenue in North Yard. This GP15-1 started life in January 1980 as Missouri Pacific 2161.

For the past month or so, UP 1901 (ex-DRGW 3155) has been hanging out in the Denver area, running on a few locals. The unit was spotted on the ready track on the west side of North Yard on this April evening.

The current power for the Rocky and South Locals sits idling in North Yard near the Yard Office. UP 1901 (ex-DRGW 3155) has been on the local along with a former Cotton Belt GP40-2 and a former Southern Pacific GP60 for the last week.

Another blizzard on the eastern plains earlier in the week resulted in UP running a Jordan Spreader on the KP to clear the line. I'm not sure if UP 5590 was one of the units with the spreader, or if it came through during the blizzard and collected its snowy hat along the way.

Got Power? A string of 20 units ranging from newer power to classic power sits on run-around track in North Yard. Meanwhile, a remote control operator moves a set of switchers out of the way on the lead to make room for three units from the MNPNY to pull off the train on yard track four. The managers in the yard tower were trying to figure out what to do with all the power.

A few of the ex-Grande units that are still roaming the rails with either their class lights or their MARS lights still intact. Such is the case with UP 1349 which, up until May 16, 2005, was DRGW 3128. On this December morning, the unit was sitting alone on the ready tracks north of the fueling tracks.

After arriving on the MPUNY-24 just after 2am, UP 1989 and sister engine from the run were moved to the north end of North Yard and placed in the storage tracks. Later in the day, they will probably be moved down to the fueling tracks to be serviced before tonights MNYPU-25 train heads south.

On the final leg of its 120 mile trip, UP 1989 (and two fellow SD70M's) throttle up for the final few yards into North Yard. Not a bad (day time) roster shot of the Heritage Unit - darn overcast!

One of the defining beacons in Denver for the past decade or so has been the so-called Quest building. The word Qwest is on all four sides of the building and at night they are illuminated very brightly in blue! On this Sunday afternoon, UP 1989 and three SD70M's have been fueled and are waiting to head south on the MNYPU, bound for Pueblo, CO.

After undergoing some repairs at Burnham, UP 1989 is finally taken back to North Yard in preparation to run south on the MNYPU. Last week, UP 1989 suffered a failure which prevent it from "loading", basically meaning that it wouldn't pull.

An unpatched Espee AC4400CW - A site that is becoming less and less common (whether it be on the main or just truckin' through the yard). On this perfect Sunday afternoon, SP 343 was being move to the ready track in North Yard after being fueled.

On a rather dull and overcast day, the sun was nice enough to come out for a few minutes right as I came across the Rio Grande Heritage Unit sitting amongst a string of power in North Yard.
