UP 1352 was the last Rio Grande GP40-2 in the 30xx number range to get a patch. It's already been nearly two years, but UP 1352 was DRGW 3097 not long ago. On this Sunday, the geep was sitting shutdown in the yard at La Salle.

While I'm not crazy about the patch on the cab as well as on the nose, it is always nice to find a patched Grande unit. Rather amazing really considering it had been nearly twenty years since the Grande disappeared at the time of this shot!

This was on my favorite Grande geeps to end up getting a patch. UP 1348 (ex-DRGW 3126) still has a full light package (MARS and Class lights) as well as the horn over the cab!

About 28 miles north of Denver on the Greeley Subdivision, the southbound MNPNY (North Platte, NE to North Yard, CO) passes hay in a field! And yes, that is the Rio Grande Heritage Unit fourth out in the consist.

UP 5822 slowly leads the MNPNY south toward a yellow (approach) signal at the north end of Brighton. The train will meet its counterpart, the MNYNP, which is out of Hazeltine (the next siding to the south).

After leaving the Greeley Subdivision behind, the MNPNY slowly makes its way toward North Yard on the Belt Line. Here, the Rio Grande Heritage Unit (fourth in the consist) crosses over a branch of the South Platte River.

A slightly different perspective on the classic EMD Spartan cab. UPY 661, a GP15-1, is being remote-controlled as it passes beneath 48th Avenue in North Yard. This GP15-1 started life in January 1980 as Missouri Pacific 2161.

In the foreground, UP 1344 (ex-DRGW 3121) switches covered hoppers on some yard tracks in North Yard. In the distance, the MNPNY comes into North Yard (on Track 7) from the Belt Line at the north end of the yard. If you look closely, note the Rio Grande Heritage Unit is fourth in the consist of the MNPNY!

1992 or 2007? Except for the large yellow patches and incorrect numbers on all three of these GP40-2s, this images could almost pass as one right out of the past! These three geeps are switching a few cars around in North Yard.

Waiting for UP's dispatcher (DS-86) to get them a clear signal at C&S Junction, the "First Beer Run" sits shy of the grade crossing at Tennyson Street. I thought the power choice was particularly interesting...a year-old SD70ACe and a twenty-five year old SD40-2!
