The town of Palisade, which is about 11 miles east of Grand Junction, is known for both its peaches and its vineyards. You can see a bit of both in this shot as the westbound Zephyr heads west on the main. I-70 runs along the barren cliff in the background. The siding of Palisade is one of the longest between Denver and Grand Junction at 12,200 feet. In order to attempt new cost saving measures, this is the final westbound Zephyr on a Monday for the foreseeable future. For now, the Zephyr will run west out of Denver on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. It will run east out of Grand Junction on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday. Note anything missing from this Zephyr? Like a Baggage Car? Amtrak is about to replace all baggage cars. Not sure if that is why this particular Zephyr is without one or not.
