The HKCKPAS has a clear signal at the east end of Tonville to continue its trek east. The train was rerouted due to flooding in the mid-west. The reroute definitely added some time as the train comes west into south Colorado from Kansas, north to Denver, east toward Fort Morgan, north into Nebraska, then west into Wyoming!

Three Boeing 737-800 fuselages lead at the front of a very long HKCKPAS (Kansas City to Pasco, WA manifest). The large cars ahead of and behind the fuselages carry additional parts for assembly to be completed in Washington.

Green and cream SD70MACs are still pretty common on coal train on BNSF, but it isn't very common to find five such units on a single train! The last four units here are idling, apparently in a power move. UP does this quite often, particularly on the Moffat, but I haven't seen it on BNSF very often.

About 20 miles northeast of Denver, this coal empty is taking the siding at Tonville for a meet with a westbound. The train may appear a bit overpowered, but only the first three units on the train are loading. The last three are idling and just along for the ride!

An eastbound coal load meets a westbound coal empty at the siding of Tonville along I-76 northeast of Denver. The last DPU'd unit is a blue CEFX leaser. It was a busy afternoon on the Brush Sub, with Amtrak 5 running nearly 8 hours late and entering the picture soon after this shot.

A rare opportunity to get the westbound California Zephyr in really great light on the Brush Sub presented itself on this day. A derailment earlier in the day stopped Amtrak for about six hours! Here, the train is moving at track speed (around 79 MPH) past the west switch of Tonville.

After meeting the ZDENCHI-10 (seen in the distance leaving the siding) at Tonville, Amtrak 5 is continuing west toward Denver. The Zephyr is running over two hours late on this particular morning. Fortunately, the 79 MPH speed limit ahead certainly helps to make up some time.

The eastbound Denver to Chicago Z-Train (led by BNSF 4979 with NS 7503 and NS 9053 along for the ride) enters the siding at Tonville to meet with a very late-running Amtrak 5. Tonville is nearly a 7200-foot siding and the Z-Train stretched nearly from east signal to west signal!
