After getting a few shots of the Zephyr going in to Gore Canyon, it was a bit tricky catching up with him again! I could have gotten a shot in Byers Canyon, but it was raining pretty hard there and, after shooting the westbound Zephyr there earlier in the day, I opted to just get ahead and get a shot here, west of Granby. Definitely need to come up a little earlier in the season next year and get a shot of those fall colors!

Just a few weeks past peak fall colors, a few golden leaves are still clinging to the trees here west of Granby. UP 1988 and UP 8237 lead a coal load east. The train is only 78-cars and, as such, has two units on the point and two units on the rear.

A favorite location of mine on the west slope of the Moffat is just west of Granby. The lighting is not ideal for the westbound Zephyr, but it could be worse. It offers a nice view of the train in front of the Continental Divide in the distance.

We are a few miles west of Granby for this eastbound coal load. It just passed a clear intermediate and is also passing by the detector at mp 79.9. One of these Septembers, I really want to try to get up here in the morning for this same shot. All the trees in this scene glow a magnificent yellow during fall.

Although the skies are mostly overcast, a brief break allowed for some great sunlight on the westbound Zephyr as it cruises along west of Granby! AMTK 184, the Phase 4 Heritage Unit, leads the way.

It doesn't get much better than this! Perfect lighting for a UP passenger special with perfect power. Fall colors to boot! Some of UP's upper managers are taking a tour of the Moffat. The train is on the move west of Granby, the Continental Divide providing a great backdrop.

The westbound Zephyrs has clear signals a few miles west of Granby. The train is descending away from the Continental Divide, visible off in the distance.

Snow-covered peaks of the Continental Divide make for a great backdrop as UP's MNYRO highballs west a couple of miles outside of Granby.

A couple of blocks west of Granby finds the eastbound MRONY crossing County Road 57. I'm a big fan of the shot looking down the straight away here and definitely have a goal of shooting an eastbound in good morning light during peak "fall colors" season one of these years.
