There are suprisingly large number of ex-BN SD60M's still left in green paint (with the BN "white face"). This SD60M, with tri-window setup, only has a small "BNSF" on the side of the cab.

A derailment in Tunnel 10 on the Moffat Tunnel Sub caused Amtrak 5 to be re-routed through Wyoming on a very cold Saturday morning. Here, Amtrak 5 is on rails seldom seen by Amtrak since the end of the San Francisco Zephyr, approaching Speer Junction (about to pass under Terry Ranch Road), just a few miles in Wyoming north of Colorado.

A unit box train was holding on main one just west of Cheyenne, waiting for a track to open so the train could continue east. The train had a new ES44AC, an ex-DRGW SD50, and two SD70ACe's for power.

Two unit grain trains, both headed east toward Cheyenne, take very different routes on the way. The train on the right will run directly into Cheyenne on main one. The train on the left is taking the Borie Cutoff up to Speer Junction, and will then enter on main three or main four.

At the BNSF yard in Cheyenne, the yard switcher (a GP35u) was idling away, snow occasionally dropping off the cab. In the background, the Rawhide Power Plant coal empty is proceeding north to the mines in the Powder River Basin.

The MNPDV is kicking up a lot of snow as it moves quickly south on the Greeley Sub. The train will go into the hole at Ault to wait for a northbound currently switching at La Salle.

About a half hour after sunset, there was just enough light left to capture this northbound manifest highballing the center crossover at Greeley.
